Martis Camp

On Tuesday night I had the pleasure of touring Martis Camp, Truckee’s newest and most exclusive luxury golf course development. Martis Camp sales agent Kim Hoopingarner provided us with information about the 2,177-acre subdivision that boasts up to 653 homesites.  Also included is the award-winning Tom Fazio Golf Course, 18 Hole putting course designed by Dick Baily, Family Barn, and much more.

This was my third visit to Martis Camp and much has changed since my last tour. The Family Barn was recently completed in July. The Tom Fazio golf course is in full operation and looking beautiful. Many homes are under construction, and the neighborhood is more alive than ever.

After arriving at the property, we were given a wonderful tour of the recently completed Family Barn. The Family Barn is an 18,000 sqft fun-filled building that is sure to create many lasting memories for the owners and their children. The “Barn” features a large top-notch swimming facility that rivals many of the best Vegas pools. It has a classic soda fountain with lounge area, bowling lanes, a movie theater, an indoor basketball court, and an artists loft. The art loft offers members the ability to attend art classes and create sketches, paintings, and sculptures. There are not many facilities similar to this anywhere in the US, truly amazing!

After the completion of the “Barn” tour, we were off to check out the 18 Hole Putting Course designed by Dick Bailey(designer of Whitehawk Ranch). The 18 hole course meanders its way through a park like setting with sweeping vistas, creeks, and waterfalls. This offers members a unique golf experience that is fun for the whole family. We had a blast on the course but due to light issues, we had to stop playing after 9 holes.

The Putting Course is beyond anything I have ever seen.  It is free for members.  You just show up at a large camp-style Pup-tent grab yourself a top of the line Ping Putter, reach in the freezer for complimentary Hagen Daz ice cream bar, grab a water from the ice-filled bucket, and head out to the first hole. Amazing! Each hole is very challenging yet fun and allows for great practice for the novice player up to the most advanced golfer on the PGA Tour. Did I mention that this course is manicured? This putting facility is in better shape than most of the courses I have ever played on and adds to the mystique of Martis Camp. Your short game is sure to improve if you are a regular on this undulating putting course.

As of today, Martis Camp has sold 224 homesites with 26 sales in 2009. With 26 homesite sales, Martis Camp is the most active golf course community in Truckee and after visiting the community I can see why. Currently, 5 beautiful custom homes have been completed, 30 homes are under construction, and another 31 homes are in the architectural review process.
