Almost 2 years ago clients of mine purchased an original Olympic Valley house. It was built in 1955 (pre-1960 Olympics) which was designed by renowned architect Henrik Bull and built by Peter Klaussen. The Bull designed home was featured in Sunset Magazine in 1958 for its innovative prow front design which is now a staple in modern mountain architecture.
This house was very special to the buyers for many reasons and they had hoped to remodel the home to preserve the historical integrity of the property. Unfortunately, after working with contractors, architects, and engineers it became apparent that the best way to preserve the integrity of the property while modernizing the home would be to tear down the original structure. They would build a new home that would honor the original architect and builder.
The owners consulted with Henrik Bull prior to his passing in 2013 in order to come up with a new design that would honor his original concept. Over the course of the next year, a new modern mountain home will emerge that will closely resemble the structure that has been demolished.
